Government Services

Duncan Frissell has a good point about government services. Mostly, he's wondering why anybody would ever be crazy enough to ask for any. As my father would say, ask for a government service and you'll get it all right -- the kind of service a cow gets from a bull. Meanwhile, back to Duncan:


I would no more send my child to a government school than I would mail
that child to California via Parcel Post.

Indeed.

Ouch, That's True

Attributed to Jay Leno, this gem of an observation:


As you may have heard, the U.S. is putting together a constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? Think about it -- it was written by very smart people, it's served us well for over two hundred years, and besides, we're not using it anymore.
